We are sad to announce that Bessie Gillam, who lived in Burton, has died at age 98.
She was a great supporter of the Horticultural Society over very many years. We are sorry to hear of her passing.
The funeral is in Rossett Church at 1pm on Tuesday 9th June 2015.
On Sunday 7th June 2015 the residents of the picturesque village of Eccleston are opening their beautiful gardens for the public to view from 1pm-5pm in support of the BIRD charity and other local causes.
BIRD is a local charity that helps children and adults with brain injuries and learning disabilities to achieve their full potential.
Tickets available to buy from the Pumphouse in the centre of Eccleston on the day, £4 per adult, children free. Refreshments and fresh plants and produce will be available for purchase. The Parish Church of St. Mary the Virgin will also be open for public viewing.
This is a great opportunity to see a number of established cottage gardens in the charming village of Eccleston , one of the picturesque villages that are part of the Eaton Estate.
Dear Members,
I enjoyed the annual dinner at The Golden Lion. It was good to meet so many people, old and new friends, and much nicer on a pleasant Spring evening. There was lots of conversation; everyone was swapping growing tips on how to win the President's Shield with the streptocarpus members were given when we went to Dibleys Nurseries.
I got tips from Rex Dibley himself on the finer points of a prize winning plant! So I am looking forward to judging all your plants at the August Show!
I am looking forward to visiting Eaton Hall; we are bound to get lots of ideas, and I can't wait to see the working areas of the garden. It will be a Grand Day Out.
I hope to see you on 13th June 2015 at the Village Hall for our Spring Show. The plant stall is just the place to buy plants that enjoy our local conditions, and the WI Cream Teas are hard to beat! There will also be the chance to enter one of the prize categories on the day; have a look at the Schedule on our website; there is something for all ages.
And do not forget the Main Show on 29th August 2015 at Darland Sports Centre. Unfortunately, due to building works, we are back in the Gymnasium this year, but we will still have a full programme of prize categories for you to enter and enjoy.
Happy Gardening!
Pat Weir
President

Read MoreDear Members,
Just a reminder regarding the trips and the Annual Dinner mentioned in the President's Letter and arranged for this year.
Click here to download (PDF) details of the trips to Dibley's Nursery on 9th May 2015 and Eaton Hall Gardens on 19th July 2015. This also includes a booking form for both trips, which should be completed and returned to me as soon as possible.
The Eaton Hall Gardens trip is one of only four allowed by the Duchess this year and we have been very fortunate to obtain this exclusive Guided Tour of the gardens.
The trip to Dibley's Nursery is the only way you can obtain a plant to grow on for the August Show, with a chance of winning the President's Shield.
Both events are strictly limited and are selling fast, so it must be 'first-come-first-served'.
Also, click here to download a copy (PDF) of the menu for the Annual Dinner, taking place on 20th May at the Golden Lion, Rossett. If you would like to come, please complete the form at the bottom of the document and return it to me no later than 30th April 2015.
If you need any further information, please email me on info@brhs.org.uk, or use the comments section below.
