Trip to Arley Hall Garden Festival

On Saturday June 24th, 22 members and guests of the society went on our trip to the Arley Hall Garden Festival.

On the show ground there were plant nurseries and garden accessories as well as the School’s Gardening Challenge, Creative Crafts Marquee. In the Question Time Marquee there were talks by the Alpine Garden Society, Sue Beesley from Bluebell Cottage Garden & Nursery, followed by Gardening with trees and shrubs, a talk by Lord and Lady Ashbrook.

Garden tours of the wonderful Herbaceous Border and Rose Garden with Arley’s head gardener Gordon Baillie were well attended and looking at their best this time of year.

We had plenty of time to wander around the different parts of the garden including the Walled Garden, Kitchen Garden and Rootery to try to cool off.

Later in the afternoon we started to buy those much desired plants from the numerous well stocked nursery stalls. The prize went to June Phillips for the tallest plant, just managing to get it home in one piece.

A lovely day out enjoyed by all.
