The Show will (hopefully!) go on

I hope you are all keeping well and safe in these difficult days, and have been making the most of the lovely weather last week to get out into your gardens. I am writing to let you know that we are hoping that this situation will have resolved by the summer, and allow us to have our annual show in August as usual.

The committee is accordingly carrying on with preparations, and I am writing now to encourage those of you, whether novices or experienced showers, to carry on growing your flowers,  fruit and vegetables, and making your jams and craft work, so that we can have a good display at the Show. As a back-up, we are investigating the feasibility of having a scaled down virtual show if the real one can’t take place!

Although the garden centres and nurseries are not considered essential (I think we would take issue with that!), and are closed to the public, many are offering a delivery or a click and collect type service so that we can continue to get hold of plants and garden supplies, and both the Grosvenor Garden Centre and Bellis’s are offering this service, with orders being taken by email or over the telephone.

The usual mail-order companies such as Crocus, Thomson and Morgan etc are still operating of course, albeit with slower delivery times due to increased demand, but also many smaller nurseries are delivering, and we should try to support all these businesses through this crisis.

You will know that the RHS has cancelled the Chelsea Flower Show, but it is planning to hold the show online, with web shows, tutorials and other content to keep us going until we return to more normal times! See their website for details.

We will continue to keep you updated as the situation evolves – we are planning to distribute the show schedules in June, but if you have any queries please let us know via the website.
